CBED has been dedicated to promoting sustainable agriculture and livelihoods in Uttarakhand for over eighteen years. The region faces various systemic challenges hindering the growth of sustainable practices necessary to combat climate change effectively. These challenges include marginal and small landholdings, heavy reliance on rainfall, limited access to improved inputs and technology, and unfavorable trade conditions. To tackle these issues, we've structured our efforts into four key areas:

• Agri-Entrepreneurship through Capacity Building and Training: This initiative aims to nurture sustainable livelihoods and stimulate regional entrepreneurship. Situated in Dhoolkot, Dehradun, our training center provides comprehensive support and training to empower aspiring youth in establishing agri-businesses. Participants undergo a 45-day course under the AC&ABC (Agri Clinic and Agri Business Centre) program of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, GOI run by the MANAGE Institute, Hyderabad. • Ensuring Drinking Water Security through Spring Rejuvenation: Given the critical link between sustainable agriculture, livelihoods, and water availability for drinking and irrigation, CBED is actively involved in springshed development. Springs serve as primary water sources in mountainous regions for both drinking and minor irrigation purposes. In 2019, CBED initiated spring rejuvenation projects in the Nainital, Tehri, and Chamoli districts, along with the repair and construction of irrigation channels in the Tehri district of Uttarakhand. Our ongoing efforts extend across Almora, Rudraprayag, and various other districts in Uttarakhand.
• Climate-Smart Practices for Building Resilience: Central to CBED's mission is building the capacity of farmers to adopt sustainable and climate-smart farming techniques. Our focus is on promoting practices like organic farming, crop diversification, and conservation agriculture. By implementing these methods, we aim to enhance agricultural productivity, lessen reliance on rainfall, and boost farmers' resilience to climate change.
• Empowering Local Communities through Participatory Processes: CBED's efforts in promoting sustainable agriculture, livelihoods, and water security are vital for building resilient communities and mitigating climate change risks.
